Coletivo Abrigo Featured in Germany's Le Monde Diplomatique

Amid one of the greatest climate tragedies in the recent history of Rio Grande do Sul, the Sarandi neighborhood in Porto Alegre was severely affected by flooding. Submerged streets, destroyed homes, displaced families, and interrupted lives marked those days in May 2024. It was in this scenario of pain and urgency that Coletivo Abrigo, along with volunteers and partners, sprang into action to provide immediate and structural support to the affected families.

This effort, built by many hands and hearts, transcended borders. The newspaper Le Monde Diplomatique from Germany, one of the most respected international publications for political and social analysis, highlighted the work of Coletivo Abrigo in Sarandi in its recent edition with an article by journalist Gerhard Dilger.

During the floods, Coletivo Abrigo mobilized volunteers and resources to assist families in vulnerable situations. Food, clothing, hygiene products, furniture, appliances, and school supplies were distributed. We also coordinated cleaning actions, psychological support, and mapping of the most urgent needs.

Every act of solidarity was a step towards rebuilding lives and this process was only possible thanks to the direct involvement of the community and the support of so many people who were willing to help.
